Who can stay, how old are the students and when?

People from any nation and age are welcome. David and Claudia speak Chinese, German and English. However, our experience with Chinese culture is unique, as we have lived in China and taught younger and older students how to learn English through a natural process, where the language gets learned by every day interaction and application.

The stays are usually the length of the summer holiday in Taiwan but can be at any time during the year and for as long as you would like to come. The youngest student so far was 10 years old. We have had some young people stay as long as three months.

Both David and Claudia have a Victorian Working with Children's Check Card.

Cost

The cost is $100 per day or $600 per week. This includes food, accommodation and visiting sights close to our location. We will take the students to many outings. The cost for petrol is covered by us

Any entry fees to swimming pools, zoo, train and other transportation or restaurant costs are extra.

Accommodation

The students will be living with us in our house on our property. We supply all bedding, linen and towels. Shampoo and soap, moisturisers and sunscreen are also supplied by us.

What is the purpose of home stay?

The student will learn important life skills like: basic metalwork woodwork, tending to farm animals, housework, cooking, baking, gardening, chopping and collecting firewood and many innovative skills like soap making and preserving.

We will teach the student English in the morning and farm work in the afternoon.

Living with a family

Living with a family gives a unique opportunity to realise friendships on a intimate level. It makes English learning natural outside the formal atmosphere of the classroom.

Our children and we have developed many relationships that have continued for years after the initial visit

Natural Environment

We have a large property in the most beautiful natural environment with thousands of square miles of bush around us. Kangaroos, wombats, deer and Australian birds are a natural occurrence here. No sound of cars or city life, only absolute peace.

The children are safe here, as there is no danger from outside influences that may occur by living in a city. Though we live in this peaceful setting we are only 1 hours drive from Melbourne and you will experience many day trips with us as we go about our normal life.

Mobile phones and other electronic devices

The young people are ask to hand us their electronic devices during their stay with us. We will give them access to their phones and WiFi only in the evening for a short time to contact their families. We discourage the students from playing games ad ask them to participate in discussions and family activities instead.
